I have poor wireless connectivity in my dorm, What do I need to do?

FAQ Categories: Network

Wireless connectivity and signal strength can be caused by several different factors. In order to have the issue addressed in a quick and efficient manner, please gather the following information:

Your IP Address assigned to you when connected to a weak signal: How do I get my IP Address? Follow this link http://www.fas-it.fas.harvard.edu/faq/ip-address

Your MAC address: How do I get my MAC address? Follow this link http://www.fas-it.fas.harvard.edu/faq/mac-address

Your building and room number: i.e. Winthrop House Room 223 (if you share a suite please indicate if the signal is fine in one area and not fine in another area. i.e. Wireless is fine in the common space but in my bedroom, room F, my signal is very weak.)

Are your roommates also experiencing the low signal strength?

Is this occurring during a specific time of day?

Are you getting a low signal, no signal or connection drops?

Have you tested this with another computer in the same area?
