FAS Account Overview

FAS Account Services

FAS accounts for Extension School students who are degree or certificate candidates remain open between terms while the student is in good standing.

Accounts for all other Extension and Summer School students close shortly after the end of the term unless the student has registered and paid in full for the next semester before a per-semester deadline. This deadline is posted each semester in the Unix message of the day.

Please note that if you re-register or pay in full after your account closes, we cannot guarantee that you will keep your same username and password.

FAS Account Eligibility - offers information on who is available for an FAS Account

E-mail Tools Overview - includes information on account activation, quotas, tools, etc.

Note: Separate online documentation is available for students making use of the @College email system.

Web Space

All FAS accounts can be set up to provide personal web-space through "www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~username", where "username" corresponds to the username of the account.

Requests for account quota increases should go to help@fas.harvard.edu

Backups and Retrievals

All FAS accounts are backed up on a nightly basis. In the event that files are inadvertently corrupted or deleted, please contact the FAS IT Service Desk (495-9000 or help@fas.harvard.edu) to request that the data be retrieved.  Retrievals are available for 14 days after the data was last backed up. Retrieval requests can take several days to process. Please note that any email or files that you receive or create and then subsequently delete between consecutive nightly backups will not be available for retrieval.

  • If you remember your password, FAS IT supports a self-help tool to change your own password.
  • FAS IT Service Desk will reset passwords with proof of identify and will not reset passwords for third parties calling on behalf of a FAS account user.
