WINDOWS 7: Support Limitations
On Thursday, October 22, 2009, Microsoft will release its newest operating system, Windows 7. FAS IT is currently testing this platform with the applications that we support. Preliminary results indicate that a number of of these applications have either limited or no compatibility with Windows 7.
At this time, FAS IT recommends that students, faculty, and staff with existing Windows XP or Vista systems avoid upgrading to Windows 7. Until software vendors have released versions of their applications that are compatible with the new operating system, FAS IT will be unable to support them. It typically takes vendors 4-6 months to catch up to a major operating system release.
FAS IT is compiling a list of compatibility and support characteristics for applications running under Windows 7, and will publish that information shortly.
