Use the following instructions to configure the Outlook Express e-mail client to work with an existing FAS account.
Note: Separate online documentation is available for students making use of the @College email system.
- In an open Outlook Express window, under E-mail, click Set up a Mail account… to open the Internet Connection Wizard.

- In the Setting up Internet Mail dialog, select Create a new Internet mail account.
- Click Next.
- In the Your Name dialog, Display name text box, enter your name as you wish it to appear to others.
- Click Next.
- In the Internet E-mail Address dialog, E-mail address text box, enter your FAS e-mail address.
- Click Next.
- In the E-mail Server Names dialog, My incoming mail server, click the drop menu to select IMAP.
- In the Incoming mail... text box, type imap.fas.harvard.edu
- In the An SMTP server is.... text box, type smtp.fas.harvard.edu
- Click Next.
- In the Internet Mail Logon dialog, Account name text box, enter your FAS Account user name.
- In the Password text box, enter your FAS Account password.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish to finalize the account setup.
- With the Outlook Express client open, on the Main Toolbar, click Tools > Accounts.
- In the Properties dialog, General tab, in the Mail Account section, enter FAS E-mail Account.
- Click the Servers tab.

- Click to select My server requires authentication.
- Click the Settings button.

- In the Outgoing Mail Server dialog, click to select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Click OK.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Server Port Numbers section, for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (SMTP), click to select This server requires a secure connection SSL.
- In the Outgoing Server text box enter 587.
- In the Incoming Server text box enter 993.
- Click OK to apply the settings and Close to finish the setup.
