The Showcase is a multimedia lab for affiliates of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Available for general walk-in use, it is located in Room 209 of the Science Center.
The Showcase has high resolution scanners, DVD/CD burners, and equipment for editing digital audio and video files, all connected to modern Macintosh computers running OS X 10.5. Common uses for this lab include:
- Scanning photos, slides, and negatives, or scanning documents with optical character recognition.
- Audio/video editing or conversion from analog to digital formats.
- Designing Web page files and graphics.
Software available in the lab includes:
- Audacity
- Final Cut Studio
- Handbrake
- Logic Studio
- Sibellius
The Multimedia Showcase's hours of operation are:
- During the academic year: Monday-Friday from 12 PM - 8 PM
- During Summer School: Monday-Friday from 12 PM - 5 PM
- The Showcase is closed during University holidays, intersession, and weekends.
Extended access is available for work on academic projects. Requests for extended access should include the name of the academic class or the sponsoring professor, and a description of the project. Requests should be sent to help@fas.harvard.edu.
Student User Assistants (UAs) are available to answer questions about the Showcase during its hours of operation, and a full-time staff member oversees the operation of this lab as well.
